We have to guard our eyes and ears, to protect the mind and heart from ALL evil spirits (Ephesians 6:10-18). One small gateway to the mind and heart can lead to higher levels of evil influences and greater opportunities to sin. Proverbs 4:20-27 read, "My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it. Keep your mouth free of perversity; keep corrupt talk far from your lips. Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil."
Certain television shows and movies many of us watch, or music many of us listen to may seem trustworthy, but we must be wise and avoid allowing the disguise of the enemy to lead us and our loved ones to demise (2 Corinthians 11:14-15). There is good reason why we must trust in the Lord with all our heart, and do not lean on our own understanding. In all our ways we must acknowledge God to make our paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6). We may think we know what is best, but we don't know nothing (Jeremiah 17:5-10). Is it truly entertaining when the mind and heart is consuming information about sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, greed, idolatry, demonic possession, corruption witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, disunity, envy, drunkenness, violence? - Mockery, ridicule, scoffing and blasphemy against our God? For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). If we were able to see the wages for chasing what our flesh desires - for practicing our sins, ahead of time, a lot of us would NEVER do it. For the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), the Spirit of God gifts life (John 6:63).
"Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires (Romans 8:5)." "Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin (Romans 7:25-26). David cried out to God after acknowledging His filth and inability to redeem himself from an evil heart in an evil world surrounded by evil influences. David cried, "Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me (Psalm 51:10). Yes, our flesh and our hearts may fail, but God is the strength of our heart and our portion forever (Psalm 73:26).
Value this wisdom (Proverbs 2:1-22). Jesus is the only perfect one who overcame this world, that we may overcome by grace through faith in His death and resurrection (1 John 5:4-5). Temptation is everywhere, however there is always a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13). God wants our full attention. His voice must become greater; every other voice must become less (John 3:30). I, personally don't watch television and movies, nor do i listen to secular music unless I literally cannot escape it. I don't even approve of my wife or children watching television or listening to any music that doesn't exalt the Word of God. Pray for my patience as I embrace the fact that Jesus is a gentlemen; I understand that I cannot force people to stop doing what is comfortable for them. One thing I do is, enforce the Word of God over everything, and if I don't feel it in the Spirit - if I do NOT hear or see TRUTH (John 4:24), I'm tearing it down before it tears down my mind and heart, as well as my loved ones (Matthew 5:29-30)!
Prayer: Today, I put my trust in you Lord and I believe your perfect guidance will not cause me to fail. Test me, Lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind; align my eyes, ears, heart and mind towards your unfailing love - in reliance on your faithfulness. I sat with the deceitful, and I associated with hypocrites. I loved the evildoers and sat with the wicked. Today, Lord, I wash my hands in innocence, and come before your throne of grace boldly, that I may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Deliver me and be merciful to me, in Jesus name! Amen!
"He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, He who despises the gain of oppression, Who gestures with his hands, refusing bribes, Who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed, And shuts his eyes from seeing evil: He will dwell on high; His place of defense will be the fortress of rocks; Bread will be given him, His water will be sure (Isaiah 33:15-16)."
