His Story, His Glory

If it doesn't line up with scripture I don't agree with it. People ask, "Why Nerva?" I say, "Because I don't want to leave any room for the enemy (Ephesians 4:27) - in my life nor in my music." Proverbs 18:21 reads, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit." I love life (Jesus - John 14:6). In everything I do I strive to speak life, Jesus (The Word - Revelations 19:13), and most importantly, in faith (Romans 4:17). Too many people are dying without hearing the gospel of Jesus Christ, so I apply the Word in my music as often as possible.

I hear many song's from various artists who share their testimony in their music, and I am too guilty of once practicing the same thing; until I gained a new perspective from the Word of God. Having said that, I believe sharing our testimony is great (Revelation 12:11), however, for all things there is a season, and every will under the heaven has its time determined (Ecclesiastes 3). My testimony contains a story of how I transitioned or transformed from the old me into the new me. I Sing to the LORD a "new" song (Psalm 96:1). The old me who drank, smoked, and fornicated is dead (Galatians 2:20). My God is not the God of the dead, but of the living (Mark 12:27). For me, I choose not to leave any room to exalt myself (Matthew 23:12), which can easily result in pride.

Don't take this the wrong way, I am not saying that it is prideful to give our testimony, I am saying there is a timing for everything. When it comes to making music, I want to make sure I am doing it in alignment with the Word of God. With my song will I praise "Him" (Psalm 28:7). Jesus said, "My light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you. Those who walk in the darkness cannot see where they are going. Put your trust in "the light" while there is still time; then you will become children of the light (John 12:35).”  Jesus did not say - Put your trust in "the Christian Rapper's testimony" while there is still time.

Oftentimes, I feel like your modern day Job every moment I think of Job 1:8 - "Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil." Christian Artist/Musicians: Who are we doing this for again (Galatians 1:10, Proverbs 29:25)? Honestly, we don't have to sensationalize our pasts in our music. The greatest issue with CHH is if a song doesn't mention God at all! A good friend once said to me, "In these times, lies are passing for the truth, and people are drinking the kool-aid every day." I agree! This is why everything I do must line up with scripture because the Word of God is the only truth we all should live by (Isaiah 59:19, James 1:21). My new rule is, if there is a little bit wrong, its all wrong. No compromise!

"I am the Lord, that is My name; And My glory I will not give to another, Nor My praise to carved images. Behold, the former things have come to pass, And new things I declare; Before they spring forth I tell you of them.” Praise to the Lord Sing to the Lord a new song, And His praise from the ends of the earth, You who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, You coastlands and you inhabitants of them! Let the wilderness and its cities lift up their voice, The villages that Kedar inhabits. Let the inhabitants of Sela sing, Let them shout from the top of the mountains. Let them give glory to the Lord, And declare His praise in the coastlands." - Isaiah 42:8-12
