"I'll be happier, less frustrated, and more complete when I get..." Get what? I have heard this so many times. What makes us believe that things should be better than they already are? I do not disagree with improvement, I just wonder - Why are so many of us dissatisfied? Oftentimes we compare our situations, conditions, circumstances, and lifestyles with others we believe we're missing out on, even though every one has been dealt different hands in life on purpose (Romans 12:4). Nevertheless, I've seen young women waste a year away feeling depressed waiting on a "someday". I've seen young men stress themselves to defeat trying to fit in. I've seen relationships crumble when a wife wished her spouse was different or better. Then the more her spouse changed, the previous satisfaction was gone - It's never good enough. It makes me wonder if the problem lies in what we don't have, or wanting more or "better" to be discontent with? Be good to what you have and what you have will always be good to you. That is what this wife learned. One day she realized that the unique qualities God has blessed her spouse with could never be compared to another who cannot be a better him than he could be. Like this wife, many of us post-pone our peace, joy, and happiness only because we aren't pleased within our own selves.
Have you ever felt insecure and said, "life would be so much better if I had a better job, house, car, pay, or if I were more like x, y, z?" A lot of us spend too much time focusing on what we want instead of what we have. We want to look like this/that, be like him/her, have more/less; There is a big difference between who you are and who you want to be.
Stop. Breath. Be grateful.
Think of what you have, not what you think you need in order to be more satisfied. You can waste a lot of time waiting on the right time to be happy, but life will just keep passing you by while you complain and make excuses. You can waste your energy trying to fit in, but you can never force a puzzle piece to fit where it was never destined to be. God created you to do great things (Ephesians 2:10). There will always be better, then there is YOU (1 Peter 4:10-11). There will always be some obstacle or challenge in the road, then there is greater within YOU (1 John 4:4). It is time for us to accept the fact that we, and our life circumstances and conditions may not be perfect, however it's okay. Just because we don't see it as okay does not mean it is not.
It is time for us to recognize and acknowledge that beauty and greatness is everywhere - just look. Everything that God has created has His signature on it - including you, which makes you special (Genesis 1:26-27). Choose to stand out - from the complaints, excuses, misery, and what every one else is doing, thinking, saying, or whatever makes every one else "them". God has created us all uniquely to fulfill a unique call. How will we ever accomplish those unique calls being the same as everyone else, or having the same as everyone else? Do your best to be who God called YOU to be; Appreciate YOUR life, and do your best to properly steward all that He has given YOU to steward for His glory while you can.
